Butter Cookies: A Cherished Family Recipe
This is one of those treasured family recipes that has been passed down from generation to generation – quite literally one of the best cookies I’ve ever had. As is often the case with food, their simplicity is what makes them so great. Cherish this one.

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. With a mixer or by hand, mix the sugar, butter, egg yolk and vanilla, then add the flour and mix just until fully incorporated.
  3. Flour a clean work surface (I use a large piece of parchment paper), and roll out the dough verrrrry thin. Cut into desired shapes, re-shaping and re-rolling the dough as needed after each batch to get the most cookies.
  4. With a small spatula, place the cut cookies onto a room temperature baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then bake on the center rack for 6-10 minutes, until edges are just sliiiiiightly golden.
